What is Companioning?

Our therapeutic and sober companioning programs work with clients of any age who need 24/7 live-in care and support and residential treatment is not a suitable option. The program pairs each client with a relatable, same-sex companion, who is screened and expertly trained. Companions either move into the client’s home or we arrange for temporary living quarters (airbnbs, hotels, apartments, etc.) depending on the unique circumstances of each case and how healthy or safe the current living situation is. The programs are designed to meet whatever the needs of the client are for as long as necessary to achieve the goals established during the treatment planning and case conceptualization.

Why Utilize a Companion?

Companioning is an extremely flexible treatment solution that can be offered to most clients regardless of the issues they are facing. Companioning allows clients to receive the highest level of care and containment without having to interrupt their daily routines, i.e. while still attending school or working, while traveling, etc. Sometimes companioning is used when a client is wait-listed at a treatment center and needs 24/7 supervision until they can get to treatment, other times a client may be resistant to traditional residential treatment and we serve as an alternative solution. We can build a team that includes psychiatrists, therapists, general practitioners (or specialists), trainers, nutritionists, yoga instructors, etc. or we can collaborate with an existing team to ensure we are providing cohesive, wrap-around support.

What Does Companioning Entail?

Companioning looks very different for each client we work with. For some it involves attending school with our clients, other times it involves dropping them off and picking them up from work, traveling with clients, coordinating clinical and medical appointments and/or ensuring clients meet whatever responsibilities they have throughout the week. We start by creating a weekly schedule and goals with each client and break down each day, hour by hour, to ensure that the time is being utilized as effectively as possible while teaching them how to organize and plan their days. We provide both short-term and long-term solutions depending on the details of each case and the needs of the client. We collaborate closely with the client's clinical team and family members to ensure everyone stays on the same page and is delivering an effective treatment plan.

Read what former clients and parents have to say about our programs, working with our team, and how our relationships have helped transform their individual and family lives.

I have known Blake Fiazi for over five years and have been very pleased with the work he has done with my son. He is very responsible and conscientious in all aspects of the work he does as a companion. I hold Blake in the highest of regard and highly recommend him as a companion for anyone looking to make changes to their life or get and stay sober!

Mother of Former Companioning Client

Working with Blake has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. He came into my life when I was in the depths of my addiction. His kind and nonjudgmental approach offered the perfect environment to heal and become the best possible version of myself. Blake’s ability to relate and connect on a personal level made me feel like a person again. He helped me change my prospective on life and I am forever grateful for the time we spent together and the changes he helped me make.

Former Companioning Client

I have had the pleasure of collaborating with Blake for several years. Not only does Blake work well on a team, but he demonstrates strong work ethic. His knowledge of both substance abuse recovery and co-occurring mental health issues always made him an asset during our time together. He was always reliable, and able to pivot at a moments notice. I deeply appreciated working so closely with him, and being able to depend on him to get the job done. Blake brought a sense of grounding to the table and never wavered in his commitment to the client and to the team. I cannot speak highly enough of my experience with him and nor could the client with whom we worked.
